Les cahiers du musée national d'art moderne n°167
Edited by Jean-Pierre Criqui, this 167th issue of Centre Pompidou’s journal (French language) features two essays on Robert Smithson’s early drawings by leading French Smithson scholars, and illustrations of rarely seen works. Maria Stavrinaki’s essay A Postmodern Saint Anthony looks to Robert Smithson’s time in Rome during the summer of 1961, and Olivier Schefer focuses his attention in his text Posters from Hell to Smithson’s paintings and drawings made between 1957 and 1962. The issue includes the letters Smithson wrote to Nancy Holt between 1959 and 1961 and to the gallerist George Lester between 1960 and 1963, published in full for the first time.
