Published in 1969, Anonyme Skulpturen is the second issue of the journal Kunst-Zeitung. It features 20 photographs of cooling towers by Bernd and Hilla Becher, along with texts by Pierre Restany and the artists. Rarely encountered, this copy is from Nancy Holt's personal library. It was issued to coincide with an exhibition at the Städtische Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, held from January 24 through March 9, 1969.
In their text, the Bechers explain that their particular interest in cooling towers stems from the fact that “buildings serving the same function appear in manifold forms. We are attempting, with the help of photography, to categorize these forms and make them comparative.” They further note that industrial buildings “have an extremely short life span,” often becoming obsolete within fifty years.
The item is in excellent condition, with some yellowing from age and a central fold, as issued.
